Be Environmentally
Responsible With Your Replacement Windows
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn.
– With energy costs soaring and the cold Rocky
Mountain winter coming to the greater Denver and Colorado
Springs areas, new residential
replacement windows or commercial replacement windows
for your home or business could be the answer you’re
looking for. According to ENERGY STAR®, the average
household in Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Evergreen,
Colorado (CO) – along with the rest of the country
– spends $1,900 each year on energy bills, with
as much as half of that spent heating and cooling your
home.
Renewal by Andersen® – an industry
leader in truly custom
replacement windows and doors across the nation
and in Colorado (CO) – is out to inform home and
business owners that poor performing windows and doors
can account for up to 40 percent of total heat loss
during the cold Colorado winters.
That is why many home and business owners are becoming
more “environmentally responsible” and choosing
Renewal by Andersen® replacement windows, whether
its traditional double
hung windows, awning
windows, or patio
doors all outfitted with energy efficient glass
and eco-friendly windows and screens. Craig Evanich,
the president of Renewal by Andersen®, recommends
that all replacement windows include key energy efficiency
designations. Organizations such as ENERGY STAR®,
the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), and
other independent organizations help consumers choose
environmentally friendly windows, doors, and other products
to increase energy efficiency while also being kind
to the environment.
The ENERGY STAR® label is attached
to glass
windows and doors that can help home or business
owners make energy efficient choices and achieve significant
savings in cooling and heating costs – something
that is especially important during the cold Rocky Mountain
winters in Denver, Pueblo, Evergreen, and Colorado Springs,
Colorado (CO). The United States Department of Energy
estimates that environmentally friendly, ENERGY STAR®-approved
residential
or commercial replacement windows – such as
Renewal by Andersen® replacement
windows – can reduce energy costs by 15 percent
over inefficient single-pane windows.
Replacement
windows are also rated by the NFRC, which establishes
an independent, industry-wide standard for testing and
labeling windows. All replacement
windows offered in Colorado (CO) by Renewal by Andersen®
feature the NFRC label, which means the performance
of the window is certified and proves that the replacement
window or patio
door has undergone an “apples to apples”
comparison with other similar products.
“When comparing windows, be sure to check a window’s
U-Factor on the NFRC label,” said Evanich. “A
window with a lower U-Factor has better insulation properties.
U-Factors run from .01 to .99. In colder climates, a
factor of 0.35 or lower is recommended.”
Home and business owners are always looking for products
that not only reduce energy consumption, but are environmentally
responsible, as well. One must consider the entire life
cycle of a product, from manufacturing and materials
to use, recycling, and disposal.
Every replacement window frame offered through Renewal
by Andersen® is manufactured using a patented, eco-friendly,
composite material that is a blend of 60 percent thermoplastic
polymers and 40 percent reclaimed wood fiber by volume.
This material means your replacement
windows will help to reduce waste created by continued
maintenance, because they never need painting or scraping.*
The wood fibers in this composite window frame material
are reclaimed from manufacturing processes, which helps
to reduce the environmental impact. In 2001, Renewal
by Andersen® became the first replacement
window manufacturer in Denver, Colorado Springs,
Evergreen, Pueblo, and the rest of the United States
to be certified by Green Seal. The Green Seal designation
identifies an environmentally preferable product, confirms
that it meets requirements for energy efficiency, and
is manufactured in an eco-friendly and environmentally
conscious way.
The durability of a window is crucial to making energy
efficient windows a long-term investment and avoiding
future waste. Evanich recommends consumers shop for
high-quality
replacement windows supported by a strong warranty,
and value the long-term investment over initial cost.
“Saving a few dollars now could mean another replacement
project just a few years down the road,” Evanich
said.
