About Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase is the name of a town in Montgomery County, Maryland.  The community encompasses the areas of Connecticut Avenue north of the District of Columbia and also includes a neighborhood of Washington, D.C., called Chevy Chase, D.C.  Chevy Chase is mainly a residential suburb.

Chevy Chase began its history as farmland.  In 1890, Senator Francis G. Newlands acquired land for the purpose of developing a suburb for Washington, DC.  The name Chevy Chase came from one of the plots of land.

Although Chevy Chase is mainly considered a residential suburb, it also is home to Friendship Heights, the popular shopping district featuring high-end malls, shops and restaurants.
