About Belmont
Belmont is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It is a suburb of Boston.
Originally called Pequosette after the local Indian tribe, settlement in the area began in 1630. In 1638, by order of the court, residents were required to pay the Indian tribe for the land. The name was changed to Watertown. In 1859, the town was formed and renamed Belmont after the estate of John Perkins Cushing, one of the leading advocates of the community and its largest land donor.
