About East Hampton

The Town of East Hampton is located in Suffolk County, in New York state. It is at the eastern end of the south shore of Long Island. East Hampton is bordered on the south by the Atlantic Ocean and to the east by Block Island Sound.

East Hampton was first settled in 1648 by a group of English Puritans. Originally called Maidstone, East Hampton became part of the province of New York in 1664. It was the first English settlement in the state of New York. The name was later changed to East Hampton.

Points of interest include Deep Hollow Ranch, the oldest cattle ranch in continuous operation since 1658. First Ladies Julia Gardiner Tyler and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis spent their childhoods in East Hampton, NY.
