Cleaning Window Frames, Grilles, Glass, and
Insect Screens in Massachusetts (MA) and southern New

Built up dirt and residue not only hampers the visual
impact of your Renewal by Andersen® window replacements,
but can impede functionality and cause material degradation.
For this reason, periodic cleaning of window frames,
glass, grilles, and insect screens is recommended for
all residential and commercial replacement window designs—whether
they be casement
replacement windows, bay
or bow window replacements, or awning
replacement windows.
To clean window frames, mix
a mild solution of detergent and water. Using a rag
or soft cloth, remove debris, dirt, soot, or salt spray
from window frames. This very same technique can be
applied when cleaning window grilles, though a brush
and stronger cleaning solution may be better suited
for instances of heavy dirt accumulation.
If you are an owner of a Renewal by Andersen® awning
replacement window or casement
window replacement, check hinges for dirt as well
as lubrication. A hinge lacking lubrication will creak
when in use, but applying a layer of dry silicone spray
will help prevent this outcome.
When cleaning a Renewal by Andersen® insect screen,
remove excess dirt and dust with a hose. For thick dirt
accumulation, a soapy water solution and soft fiber
brush is effective in removing unwanted particles.

hardware finish. Instead, use a mild detergent and soft
cloth when removing dirt and grim. If you adorned your

or antiqued bronze hardware, expect a natural patina
over time with continued use. A light coating of mechanics
oil, however, can be applied to restore sheen and deepen

and let stand for two to three minutes. Then remove
excess oil with a soft cloth.
In addition to periodic hardware cleaning, Boston, Massachusetts
